We had fantastic weather this Memorial Day weekend! I took full advantage of the opportunity to get out in nature with a very dear friend and my littlest munchkin. I have learned in the past few weeks that my toddler is a capable little hiker so when we decided to visit one of the local waterfalls, I was all in for a climb to the top.
Jax was a little less agreeable on this particular climb, but we didn't let it stop us! I hoist him to my strong side and navigate with cautious confidence until we reach the top! What goes up must come down, as they say, so eventually that challenge is in front of us. Jax is becoming a pro at taking turns while mommy navigates the safest route. Holding him in place and asserting that he must wait his turn, I take a few steps down and then turn and allow him his opportunity to be swung from one rock to his next layover. Once we make it back to the car I can't help but feel a sense of accomplishment for successfully completing another fun trek and I'm so proud that I am able to count on my 2 year old to cooperate!
Now it's on to the next stop: the Francis Walter Dam near White Haven. There is a nice red rock road winding pathway (and some concrete) that leads to a rock clearing by the water where people can often be found fishing. We find ourselves here often and I grew up visiting these grounds. My big kids and I recently took a hike here and climbed the rocks as far out to the water's edge as we could. They have become little daredevils embracing this new found ability to climb rocks to a destination. This time it's Jax's turn and we proceed with our little routine of taking turns. My friend thinks I have the back of a mule for all the hauling and hoisting I had to do throughout our excursions and I'm feeling empowered and alive for having gotten out to enjoy this day! It's amazing what a little fresh air and a little challenge can do for your soul. Be mindful, be safe, but just go!
